Eucomed visits AdvaMed to discuss global ethics and compliance

Eucomed visited US counterpart AdvaMed in Washington at the end of October. Aline Lautenberg, Eucomed Legal Counsel attended various meetings to discuss global ethics and compliance.

One of the meetings was organized by the Device & Diagnostics Compliance Group (DDCG) which is composed of the US and global compliance officers of AdvaMed's member companies. During this meeting Mark Pastin, President of the Health Ethics Trust, presented best practice standards for company’s Code of Conduct, followed by a discussion with hospital compliance officers on the challenges they face each day. Furthermore, Aline updated the DDCG group on the conference pre-vetting system which is currently being developed by Eucomed and which will be launched at the beginning of 2012. Interesting points relating to the Eucomed Compliance Panel and the assessment criteria of the new system were raised during this session.

This visit was also an opportunity to follow-up on the ‘Kuala Lumpur (KL) Principles for Medical Device Sector Codes of Ethics’ that were endorsed in May 2011 after the 18th APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) SME Ministerial meeting. This document aims at establishing a common set of medical device industry code principles throughout Asia (and part of Latin America).

Last but not least, Eucomed and AdvaMed finalised the draft agenda for the 2012 International Medical Device Industry Compliance conference which will take place from 9-12 May 2012 in Stockholm (Sweden). The programme and online registration will be available on the dedicated website of the conference shortly.
