eHealth

eHealth is the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and services in health and healthcare delivery. Such tools and services are increasingly used by both healthcare professionals and patients, and are playing a significant role in improving the health of European citizens, changing how they manage their health and receive their healthcare services. eHealth is also a current and future driver of efficiencies within healthcare systems.

Innovations powered by eHealth have huge potential to improve the quality and productivity of healthcare systems, and can help deliver equitable access to safer, more user-friendly services for Europe’s citizens. Given the pressures caused by an increasing incidence of chronic conditions and the demographic challenges of an ageing population, these improvements and efficiencies will be vitally important.

The medical technology industry is very aware of the potential that eHealth offers. It can empower patients to better manage their own health and can facilitate the sharing of best practice and improvements across the EU’s borders. In addition, it will help drive improved quality, productivity and sustainability in healthcare systems. Eucomed and its members are fully committed to supporting appropriate policies, legislation and pilot programmes which will assist eHealth in reaching its full potential.
