Sustaining and implementing universal health coverage. Four perspectives. Five continents

On 10 February 2012 in Milan, SDA Bocconi School of Management's Master of International Health Care Management, Economics and Policy (MIHMEP) will organise its first International Conference on ‘Sustaining and Implementing Universal Health Coverage’.

The global event will address the most challenging topics of universal access to health and will highlight four different perspectives through the involvement of prominent academics, policy-makers and leaders from around the world, including:

  • Nancy Kane - Harvard School of Public Health, US;
  • Paola Testori Coggi - DG Sanco, European Commission, Belgium;
  • Gérard de Pouvourville - ESSEC, France;
  • Mike Drummond - York University, UK;
  • Timothy G. Evans - James P. Grant School of Public Health at BRAC University, Bangladesh;
  • Martin McKee - LSHTM, UK;
  • Peter Spurgeon - Warwick University, UK;
  • Guido Tabellini - Università Bocconi, Italy;
  • Mark Pearson - OECD, France
  • and global decision-makers like WHO, World Bank and industry representatives.
The conference aims to gather all members of the Scientific Board of MIHMEP to discuss the up-to-date state of the art as to Universal Access to Health from the perspectives of Management, Economics, Global Health, and Public Health. Such discussions will cover all countries, from high to low-income.

The programme is divided into three main parts:

  1. How the theme of Universal Coverage of Health is approached in Academia
  2. How Universal Coverage can be implemented: presentation of cases by MIHMEP Alumni working in the Industry, Governments, NGOs, International Organisations, and Funders.
  3. How Universal Coverage of Health is dealt with by global decision-makers such as the European Commission, OECD, WHO, World Bank and Industry.Over 700 delegates from the academia, policy-making arena, industry, healthcare management are expected to attend. A special report synthetising key messages and presentations will be released after the conference in an A+ peer reviewed journal.
