The Eucomed Code of Ethical Business Practice, in its preamble, sets out four principles, one of which is related to Equivalence. This principle is one of the cornerstones of the Eucomed Code and details the remuneration terms for any service that a healthcare professional (HCP) might perform with the aim of ensuring that a fair market value is paid for such services. It is however difficult for individual companies to assess what would be a fair market value to be paid to specific HCPs, as this is related to information which varies depending on the seniority of the HCP, the country were this person is licensed to practice and what specialty the HCP is working in. HCPs cannot exchange such information because of antitrust rules.
This report therefore provides a good ground for companies to base themselves on data to make a decision. Moreover, companies have to be able to establish/prove on which basis they have established their remuneration standards and their "fair market value".
