Brussels, 16 October 2006 - Dr Drago Cerchiari, Chief Executive Officer Sorin Group, has been re-elected as Chairman of Eucomed, the European medical technology industry association. The election of the 2007 Board of Directors took place on the occasion of the association's annual general meeting and events in Milan last week, attended by over 150 medical technology industry business leaders and opinion formers from Europe, the United States, Australia, Canada and Japan. Dr Cerchiari, who became Eucomed Chairman last year, was re-elected unanimously by the Eucomed membership.
Eucomed represents directly and indirectly 4500 designers, manufacturers and suppliers of medical technology used in the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and amelioration of disease and disability. Small and medium size companies make up more than 80% of this sector. The medical technology industry employs near to 400.000 highly skilled workers in Europe. The mission of Eucomed is to improve patient and clinician access to modern, innovative and reliable medical technology.
The Eucomed Board of Directors is composed to reflect the dual membership of the organization, with six Directors representing the Eucomed association members and six Directors representing the Eucomed corporate members. Each Director is appointed for a period of two years.
