As a Company Group Chairman for Johnson & Johnson, Dr. Guy J. Lebeau is responsible for the growth and strategic direction of the company's medical device and diagnostics segment in Europe, Middle East and Africa, one of the broadest and most diverse areas of the world. Prior to this role, he served as Worldwide Chairman for Cordis Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson company, where he led the cardiology, endovascular, neurovascular and electrophysiology businesses to unprecedented growth and transformation. During his tenure at Cordis, the company reached significant milestones such as the one million patient treatment with the CYPHER® Sirolimus-eluting Coronary Stent, which is used for the treatment of coronary blockages.
In March 1991, Dr. Lebeau joined Johnson & Johnson as a Research & Development Assistant at Ethicon, Inc. He then moved to Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. where he held positions of increased responsibility in Sales & Marketing, leading to the appointment of Vice President of International Development. Dr. Lebeau was later named International President for Biosense Webster, Inc. where he led the merger of Biosense, Ltd and Webster, Inc. He became Worldwide President in 2001 and focused the company on the development of therapy for Atrial Fibrillation. In 2002, in addition to his responsibilities for Biosense Webster, Dr. Lebeau was in charge of the development of Cordis Neurovascular, Inc. where he developed a mid-term strategy for the treatment of aneurysm and long-term plan for approaching the treatment of stroke. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Lebeau was Assistant Professor of Surgery at Rennes University School of Medicine, Digestive Surgery Department Organ Transplant Unit in France. He was also Associate Researcher in the National Science Institute for Medical Research.
A graduate of the University of Rennes (France) and the University of Paris, he obtained Master's Degrees in Cellular Biology and Transplant Immunology. His post-graduate fellowship training in Organ Transplant was at the University Hospital of Pittsburgh in Dr. T.E. Starzl's department. Certified in General Surgery, Dr. Lebeau has authored journal articles and book chapters in the fields of hepathology, liver transplant and general surgery.
